Bonavita Variable Temperature Digital Electric Kettle 1 L

BonavitaElectric: 1.0 L (from the product name), 140 to 212 F (60 to 98 C) in 1 F steps, up to 60 min hold (the maker's page)

Recommended as an electric gooseneck kettle by 12 publishers: The Way to Coffee, Home Grounds, Drip Roast, Better Coffee Lab, RoastRig, Bean Ground, Creators of Coffee, Corner Coffee Store, Low-Key Coffee Snobs, CoffeeRoast Co., NBC Select and Bon Appetit.

Check first: America's Test Kitchen calls it a poor fit: slowest adjustable kettle tested, with an awkward handle, a separate hold button that must be pressed first, and readings as much as 5 degrees off.

Check first: Food & Wine calls it a poor fit: left off the list because the design is lacking for $130, there is no alert sound and the display read about 11 degrees below the real water temperature. The page prints no capacity.

Measured: Accuracy against set temperature in its tests, as much as 5 degrees off (America's Test Kitchen, as the Bonavita Interurban Stainless Steel 1.0L Variable Temperature Kettle).

Measured: Degrees off the 200 F set point, 500 mL, average of three runs, 2.0 degrees off (TechGearLab, as the Bonavita 1.0L (printed in the table as Bonvita Gooseneck)).

Measured: Degrees off the 175 F set point, 500 mL, average of three runs, 3.0 degrees off (TechGearLab, as the Bonavita 1.0L (printed in the table as Bonvita Gooseneck)).

Measured: Display reading against measured water temperature, display 189°F, measured 200.4°F (Food & Wine, as the Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric Kettle).

What 14 publishers say
  • The Way to Coffee 2026-08-10, as the Bonavita Variable Temperature: Lists it among its best electric kettles as the plain, no-frills option with one-degree steps and a 60 minute hold. Finish and design feel less refined.
  • Home Grounds 2023-12-19, as the Bonavita BV382510V Digital Variable Temperature Gooseneck Electric Kettle: Calls it one of its favorite pour over kettles and scores it well. Likes the one-degree steps and large size; dislikes the slow heating and missing beep.
  • Drip Roast 2026-09-09, as the Bonavita Variable: One of three mid-range picks that earn their price, with long owner-reported life. Warns that stock is spotty.
  • Better Coffee Lab 2026-09-03, as the Bonavita Variable Temp Kettle: Calls it the best value in the mid-range, with stable heat and presets. Cons are the bulky design and no timer.
  • RoastRig 2026-04-03, as the Bonavita 1L Digital Variable Temperature Kettle: Recommends it as a reliable, no-nonsense daily kettle with a 1 L size and 60 minute hold. Notes more plastic and a plain interface.
  • Bean Ground 2025-11-24, as the Bonavita Electric Pour-Over Kettle: Recommends it as a budget-friendly first electric gooseneck with real temperature control. Design is dated.
  • Creators of Coffee 2026-01-19, as the Bonavita Gooseneck Kettle: Lists it first as the best value electric gooseneck, 1 L with a one hour hold. Cons are dated design and some rust reports.
  • Corner Coffee Store 2026-05-29, as the Bonavita Gooseneck (Bonavita BV382510V): Names it the best electric pick, liking the 60 minute hold. Notes a learning curve and a one year warranty.
  • Low-Key Coffee Snobs 2026-08-23, as the Bonavita 1L Digital Variable Temperature Gooseneck Electric Kettle: Would buy it first if his Stagg needed replacing, after about seven years of service from his own. Its temperature controls are less intuitive.
  • CoffeeRoast Co. 2026-02-19, as the Bonavita Variable: Lists it with the OXO as a value alternative under $80 and says it has the longer build record of the budget kettles. The page prints no size.
  • NBC Select 2022-08-29, as the Bonavita Digital Variable Temperature Gooseneck Kettle: Called a favourite of its experts; tea educator Anna Ye often recommends it for its slim spout and sturdy steel body. The page prints no capacity, only 1-degree steps from 140 to 212 F.
  • Bon Appetit 2026-10-06, as the Bonavita Digital Variable Temperature Kettle (1L Digital Variable Temperature Gooseneck Electric Kettle): Listed among the other goosenecks it likes: slower to heat than the Fellow but still a really great kettle, best bought on sale. Controls give 1-degree steps up to 208 F plus a Boil button.
  • America's Test Kitchen 2022-02-01, as the Bonavita Interurban Stainless Steel 1.0L Variable Temperature Kettle: Slowest adjustable kettle tested, with an awkward handle, a separate hold button that must be pressed first, and readings as much as 5 degrees off.
  • Food & Wine 2022-11-01, as the Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric Kettle: Left off the list because the design is lacking for $130, there is no alert sound and the display read about 11 degrees below the real water temperature. The page prints no capacity.

Hario V60 Power Kettle Buono

HarioElectric: 0.8 L practical capacity, boils water only, no temperature setting (the maker's page)

Recommended as an electric gooseneck kettle by 3 publishers: Creators of Coffee, Serious Eats and The Strategist.

Check first: America's Test Kitchen calls it a poor fit: slowish for a boil-only kettle, with a shallow spout curve that made spills easy, a dim indicator light and an uncomfortable ridged handle. ATK tested the EVKB-80U-HSV (27 oz).

What 4 publishers say
  • Creators of Coffee 2026-01-19, as the Hario Buono Electric Kettle: A weak, conditional recommendation of the 0.8 L electric Hario with no temperature control, for people who only want an easy pour. She would pick a cheaper kettle if price is the goal.
  • Serious Eats 2022-05-12, as the Hario V60 "Buono" Electric Gooseneck Kettle: Picked as the simple choice for people who only want to brew coffee: no temperature setting, about five minutes to heat 0.8 L, shuts itself off. Cons are the short cord and no keep-warm.
  • The Strategist 2026-09-10, as the Hario V60 “Buono” Electric Kettle: Budget gooseneck pick with no temperature control or hold (0.8 L). Professionals she spoke to call it a solid choice, and she finds it attractive.
  • America's Test Kitchen 2022-02-01, as the Hario V60 “Buono” Electric Drip Kettle: Slowish for a boil-only kettle, with a shallow spout curve that made spills easy, a dim indicator light and an uncomfortable ridged handle. ATK tested the EVKB-80U-HSV (27 oz).

Hario V60 Buono Drip Kettle 1.2 L

HarioStovetop: full capacity 1.2 L (practical 800 mL) (the maker's page)

Recommended as a stovetop gooseneck kettle by 8 publishers: The Way to Coffee, Home Grounds, Drip Roast, RoastRig, The Coffee Chronicler, Bean Ground, Gear Patrol and Food & Wine.

What 8 publishers say
  • The Way to Coffee 2026-08-10, as the Hario Buono: Names it the best stovetop kettle for smooth, controllable pours. The page says it is marketed at 1.2 litres and holds about 800 ml in practice, and that the water cools fast off the heat.
  • Home Grounds 2026-02-28, as the Hario Buono V60 Drip Kettle: Best stovetop pick, praised for ergonomics and a smooth flow, but it takes practice. The page lists the 34 oz and 40 oz sizes.
  • Drip Roast 2026-09-09, as the Hario V60 Buono: Calls it the stovetop icon and the pick for minimalists and campers. Needs a separate thermometer; practical fill is about 800 mL of the 1.2 L rating.
  • RoastRig 2026-04-03, as the Hario V60 Buono Stovetop Gooseneck Kettle (1.2L): Names it the best stovetop kettle for anyone who already has a thermometer. Flow is slightly faster than the narrowest electric goosenecks.
  • The Coffee Chronicler 2024-04-10, as the Hario Buono Pour Over Kettle: Calls it a classic that gets the job done but finds 1.2 L excessive for most home users and the flow fast. Page also notes a 1 L model.
  • Bean Ground 2025-11-24, as the Hario Buono Manual Gooseneck Kettle: Calls it a great pick for a durable stovetop kettle and one of his personal favorites. The table lists 1.2 L.
  • Gear Patrol 2023-09-18, as the Hario V60 Buono Kettle: Best stovetop pick, from a staff writer who has owned one for eight years and praises the controlled pour, build and price. The page lists it at 1.2 L; cons are an inexact temperature reading, a handle that gets hot on gas and no dishwasher use.
  • Food & Wine 2022-11-01, as the Hario V60 Buono Drip Kettle: Best stovetop pick, liked for its simple design and low price, and the page lists 1.2 liters. Cons are no max fill line and weaker heat holding than electric kettles.

  • The Coffee Chronicler 2024-04-10, as the Hario Buono Pour Over Kettle: Says the smaller 1 L Buono is probably more suitable for most people than the 1.2 L one he mostly reviewed.
  • Corner Coffee Store 2026-05-29, as the Hario Buono: Gives the stovetop Buono a high score and calls it a great option for pour over on a budget. The page gives its full capacity as one liter and says to fill it only to 0.6 L.

Near misses: not a pick

  • Bodum Melior Gooseneck Electric Kettle 0.8 L Drip Roast and Creators of Coffee recommend it, but Serious Eats and Bon Appetit say it is a poor fit. Serious Eats: The reviewer doubted the cork lid and handle, worried about build quality and saw some leaking near the base. Bon Appetit: Placed in its not-recommended list because it has no temperature settings or display, only a switch to boil. Fine only if you want cheap boiling water.
  • Hario Fit V60 Drip Kettle 1.2 L Only Saveur recommends it, and we need two publishers.

Why a gooseneck spout suits pour over

Pour over works when the water lands where you aim it, slowly and evenly. A long, thin spout gives you a narrow stream you can steer. A regular spout lets the water out in a wide sheet.

Diagram: a regular spout A kettle with a short, regular spout pours a wide, uneven stream that splashes across the whole coffee bed in a dripper. splashes out Regular spout Wide, uneven stream, landing all over the bed. Diagram: a gooseneck spout A kettle with a long, curved gooseneck spout pours a thin, steady stream that lands in one small spot at the centre of the coffee bed in a dripper. one small spot Gooseneck spout Thin, steady stream, landing in one small spot.
Diagram. It shows the idea, not a measurement. Serious Eats says a gooseneck kettle lets you pour water slowly and at a controlled rate, and quotes a coffee trainer who finds it helpful to focus the pour on specific areas instead of splashing it all across the brew bed. America's Test Kitchen says the thin, curved spout dispenses water slowly and precisely. Sources: Serious Eats, America's Test Kitchen.

What was measured, and what is opinion

Publishers rarely print numbers for a kettle. These are the figures the publishers printed from their own measuring, temperature accuracy and flow first, then boil times and keep-warm tests. Everything else here is a reviewer's opinion or a spec from the maker's own page.

How we picked
  • Evidence: for each kettle we read what published reviews say about it and note every statement with its source, so each line says whose opinion it is. Every spec comes from the maker's own product page.
  • Kind: an electric kettle has a heated base, a stovetop kettle goes on a hob. The maker's page says which.
  • Precise temperature: the maker's own page says you can set the temperature in fine steps, and that the kettle holds it for some minutes.
  • Support: at least two different publishers recommend it as a gooseneck kettle of its kind.
  • Cautions: where a publisher calls it a poor fit, the card says so. A kettle is not picked when as many publishers call it a poor fit as recommend it.
  • Retired: a model its maker no longer sells new is never picked. It stays in the table and under Also passes the rule, labelled Retired by the maker, with the maker's own words as the source.
  • Price: a shop has it in stock and delivers to your country. Pick your country above and the list changes with it.
  • Ranking: the publishers who recommend it minus those who call it a poor fit, then the publishers who recommend it, then the lower delivered price.
  • Best for precise temperature is the first electric kettle in the precise temperature ranking. The maker's own page must say that you can set the temperature in fine steps and that the kettle holds it for some minutes.
  • Best budget electric is the lowest delivered price among the electric kettles that pass.

Questions

What is the best gooseneck kettle for precise temperature?

In Lithuania, our pick for precise temperature is the Bonavita Variable Temperature Digital Electric Kettle 1 L, €119 delivered to Lithuania at Coffeeloft. 12 publishers recommend it: The Way to Coffee, Home Grounds, Drip Roast, Better Coffee Lab, RoastRig, Bean Ground, Creators of Coffee, Corner Coffee Store, Low-Key Coffee Snobs, CoffeeRoast Co., NBC Select and Bon Appetit. The maker's page says: 140 to 212 F (60 to 98 C) in 1 F steps, up to 60 min. We pick it because the maker's page states a temperature you can set in fine steps and a hold time, and publishers recommend it.

What is the best cheap electric gooseneck kettle?

In Lithuania, the lowest delivered price among the electric kettles that pass our rule is the Hario V60 Power Kettle Buono, €84.15 at Kavos draugas / Coffee Friend. Prices include VAT and shipping for the kettle alone.

What is the best stovetop gooseneck kettle?

In Lithuania, our pick for the stovetop is the Hario V60 Buono Drip Kettle 1.2 L, €50.99 delivered to Lithuania at Coffeeloft. 8 publishers recommend it: The Way to Coffee, Home Grounds, Drip Roast, RoastRig, The Coffee Chronicler, Bean Ground, Gear Patrol and Food & Wine. A stovetop kettle has no temperature setting, so you time the pour or use a thermometer.

Do I need a kettle with temperature control for pour over?

Publishers disagree. The Way to Coffee says temperature makes or breaks the extraction, with a sweet spot for most coffees between 92 and 96 degrees Celsius. A coffee educator quoted by The Strategist says you do not have to overthink it: just boil the water, wait a minute, and then pour. The precise temperature picks above suit the first view, the budget electric and stovetop picks the second.

Which of these stovetop kettles work on an induction hob?

Only what each maker's page says: Hario V60 Buono Drip Kettle 1.2 L: gas, induction (IH) and electric heaters; Hario V60 Buono Drip Kettle 1.0 L: gas, induction (IH) and electric heaters; Hario V60 Buono Drip Kettle 0.7 L: gas and electric heaters; NOT induction (IH); Hario Fit V60 Drip Kettle 1.2 L: open flame (gas) and IH induction; Westmark Brasilia Plus gooseneck kettle with thermometer 0.8 L: electric, ceramic, gas and induction hobs. Check the maker's page for your exact model before you buy.

What was measured and what is opinion?

Temperature accuracy and flow rate are shown only where a publisher measured them: The Way to Coffee measured time to pour out the full 900 ml (author's own timing) for the Fellow Stagg EKG at roughly 53 seconds; Serious Eats measured reading on an instant-read thermometer when set to 175, 185, 190 and 200 F for the Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Gooseneck Kettle at on target at 175 F and 185 F; one degree off at 190 F and 200 F; America's Test Kitchen measured accuracy against set temperature in its tests for the Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle at often off by 3 to 4 degrees; Tom's Guide measured flow rate range poured with a V60 for the Fellow Stagg EKG at 1.5g/s lowest, 25g/s maximum; CoffeeRoast Co. measured temperature drift in the shop's testing (conditions not printed) for the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro at ±0.5°F; America's Test Kitchen measured accuracy against set temperature in its tests for the Bonavita Interurban Stainless Steel 1.0L Variable Temperature Kettle at as much as 5 degrees off; TechGearLab measured degrees off the 200 F set point, 500 mL, average of three runs for the Bonavita 1.0L (printed in the table as Bonvita Gooseneck) at 2.0 degrees off; TechGearLab measured degrees off the 175 F set point, 500 mL, average of three runs for the Bonavita 1.0L (printed in the table as Bonvita Gooseneck) at 3.0 degrees off; Food & Wine measured display reading against measured water temperature for the Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric Kettle at display 189°F, measured 200.4°F. Everything else on this page is a reviewer's opinion, labelled with the publisher's name, or a spec from the maker's own page.

How did you choose these gooseneck kettles?

Evidence: for each kettle we read what published reviews say about it and note every statement with its source, so each line says whose opinion it is. Every spec comes from the maker's own product page. Kind: an electric kettle has a heated base, a stovetop kettle goes on a hob. The maker's page says which. Precise temperature: the maker's own page says you can set the temperature in fine steps, and that the kettle holds it for some minutes. Support: at least two different publishers recommend it as a gooseneck kettle of its kind. Cautions: where a publisher calls it a poor fit, the card says so. A kettle is not picked when as many publishers call it a poor fit as recommend it. Retired: a model its maker no longer sells new is never picked. It stays in the table and under Also passes the rule, labelled Retired by the maker, with the maker's own words as the source. Price: a shop has it in stock and delivers to your country. Pick your country above and the list changes with it. Ranking: the publishers who recommend it minus those who call it a poor fit, then the publishers who recommend it, then the lower delivered price.
