Pros and cons
Pros
- It is very small and easy to carry, and it fits inside an AeroPress.
- The stainless body and ceramic burrs are well made, and The Coffee Folk says many owners still use theirs years later.
- Able Brewing says the handle no longer slips off while grinding, a complaint about the older Mini.
- Able Brewing describes the adjustment as firm, with no loose play and small, defined clicks.
- Consistency is called decent for the price, best from medium-fine to medium-coarse settings.
Cons
- It holds only about 20 g of beans, enough for one or two cups.
- Small burrs mean a lot of cranking, so grinding is slow.
- The Coffee Folk notes slight burr wobble, though only a perfectionist would notice it.
- Able Brewing saw more fines at coarse French press settings and would not upgrade for coarse use.
What owners report
- Great travel grinder. Able Brewing took it on planes, hikes and trips abroad and calls the extra weight worth it for the sturdier build.
- Hand fatigue. The Coffee Folk says two cups can be a heavy workout. It quotes a commenter who counted about 230 handle turns for a full hopper on a fine setting.
- Rivals now beat it. The Coffee Folk says newer compact hand grinders such as 1Zpresso now beat it on grind quality. People pick it mainly for portability.
What experts measured
- Honest Coffee Guide lists a range of 0 to 1400 microns, with espresso at 4 to 6 clicks from zero.
